2º day

Lapa Doce Cave & Pratinha Farm

We leave Lençóis for a 2-hour drive to Lapa Doce Cave, where we’ll walk for 1 hour inside the cave admiring incredible stalactite and stalagmite formations. Then we drive 20 minutes to Pratinha Farm, an underground water spring with crystal-clear water in the middle of the Bahia backlands.

Departure: 8:30 a.m. Return: 5:30 p.m.

Total: 2km

Lunch at the attraction restaurant (not included)

3º day

Fumaça Waterfall & Riachinho

We leave Lençóis for a 1.5-hour drive to the Fumaça trailhead. The round-trip hike is 12km — the first 2km is a steep ascent, followed by 4km of flat rocky terrain. The top view of Fumaça, the tallest waterfall in Brazil accessible by a day hike, is breathtaking. We finish the day watching the sunset at Riachinho.

Total: 12km

Lunch not included – bring snacks

4º day

Mosquito Waterfall, Devil's Pool & Pai Inácio Hill

Then we head by car to Devil’s Pool, one of the largest swimming spots in Chapada Diamantina. We end the day watching the sunset from Pai Inácio Hill — the iconic postcard of Chapada.

Lunch at the attraction restaurant (not included)

Total: 6km

5º day

Vale do Pati

We leave Lençóis at 7am and drive to Guiné (2 hours), where we start and end the circular trek. After entering the Vale, it’s 72 hours with no cell signal. We begin with the steep climb of “Subida dos Aleixos” for about 1 hour. Then, we walk along the flat stretch of “Gerais do Rio Preto” and can bathe in the river while the guides prepare a rich picnic with fresh coffee. Afterward, we head to the Pati viewpoint for breathtaking views of the valley, descend the Rampa, and take a swim in Altina Waterfall. We end the day with a delicious dinner cooked by locals over a wood stove and a bonfire under the starry sky.

Total: 10km

Overnight: local home

Meals: lunch and dinner included.

6º day

Vale do Pati

After breakfast (7am), we face the steep climb of the imposing Morro do Castelo. We reach the entrance of Lapinha Cave and skirt around the hill to reach two amazing viewpoints, where our guide will prepare a hearty picnic lunch with a view. After lunch, we descend Morro do Castelo and head to the circuit of 3 waterfalls: Bananeiras, Funil, and Altina Waterfalls for a refreshing swim. We end the day back at the local home for dinner and rest.

Total: 12km

Overnight: local home

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

7º day

Vale do Pati

We leave the local home after breakfast and hike to one of the highlights of the trek: the viewpoint above Cachoeirão Waterfall. With multiple cascades often forming rainbows, its 300m height creates a breathtaking scene. After a snack here, we hike along the flat “Gerais do Rio Preto,” descend the Aleixos, and return to the car we left on the first day. We then drive to Ibicoara (arrival around 8pm).

Total: 18km

Overnight: guesthouse in Ibicoara

Meals: breakfast and lunch included.

8º day

Buracão Waterfall

We drive 40 minutes from Ibicoara to the entrance of Buracão Waterfall. There are two ways to reach the 80m drop: swimming through canyons with life jackets (provided by the Municipal Park) or, for the adventurous, rappelling (extra cost, paid on site). On the same trail, we’ll also visit Recanto Verde and Orquídeas Waterfalls. Departure: 9am Return: 6pm Overnight: local home in Ibicoara

Total: 7km

Meals: breakfast and dinner included.

For lunch, we recommend buying the packed lunch from the guesthouse.

9º day

Fumacinha Waterfall

One of the most impressive waterfalls in Chapada Diamantina. The trail is technical and moderately difficult, following the riverbed, jumping stones, and crossing the river back and forth. Despite the challenge, the reward is huge: a 105m waterfall inside a canyon that resembles a chapel. If lucky, we might see a musical show by the swallows inside the canyon

Departure: 7am

Return: 6pm

Overnight: guesthouse in Mucugê

Total: 18km

Meals: breakfast included. For lunch, we recommend buying the packed lunch at the guesthouse. Dinner not included at Mucugê, but there are good restaurants.

10º day

Blue pool and Enchanted Pool

We leave Mucugê and drive for 1 hour to Poço Encantado and Poço Azul, two stunning pools of crystal-clear water. Swimming is prohibited in Poço Encantado for safety reasons, but at Poço Azul, swimming and snorkeling with life jackets (provided) is possible.

Departure: 8:30am

Arrival and end in Lençóis: 5pm

Meals: breakfast included. Lunch (not included) will be at the Poço Azul restaurant.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

It is an intermediate-level trek, lasting 5 days with daily distances of over 10 km, involving both ascents and descents.

We recommend it for people who:

  • exercise regularly,

  • are accustomed to hiking, and

  • are in good health.

Each traveler carries their own backpack. We recommend it weighs between 3–6 kg.

  • On the 3-day trek, you will carry the backpack on days 1 and 3. Since both nights are spent in the same house, on the second day you can leave your belongings there and hike only with a small daypack (10L), which should fit inside your main backpack.

  • On the 5-day trek, you will carry the main backpack every day, and on some sections you will also use the daypack.

Phase 1 – First 4 days (Lençóis – day trips)

During this stage, you will do day hikes and always return to sleep in Lençóis.

  • Main suitcase/bag:
Can stay at the guesthouse since you return daily.

  • Daypack (20–30L):

    • Water (2–3 liters)

    • Trail snacks

    • Sunscreen and insect repellent

    • Hat/cap

    • Rain jacket or light anorak

    • Camera or phone

    • Sunglasses

    • Swimwear and small towel (some tours include river/waterfall swimming)

Phase 2 – Vale do Pati Trekking (3 days)

In this stage, you’ll carry only the essentials for 3 days of trekking and overnight stays in local houses.

  • Backpack (50–60L):

    • Light, breathable clothing (2–3 sets)

    • Base layer or fleece for cold nights

    • Rain jacket or resistant poncho

    • Swimwear

    • Lightweight sandals

    • Personal hygiene items (small containers)

    • Quick-dry towel

    • Headlamp + extra batteries

    • Personal medication

    • Dry bag or plastic bags to protect clothes/electronics

    • Sunscreen and insect repellent

    • Trail snacks (provided by our team, but save some space)

    • Daypack (20L) for short hikes

💡 Note: You don’t need to bring a tent, sleeping bag, or cooking utensils — accommodation and meals are provided in the houses at Vale do Pati.

Phase 3 – South of Chapada (last 3 days)

For this stage, prepare an extra backpack with clean and dry clothes for the last days.

  • This backpack will be taken to the meeting point at the start of the Pati trek and kept in the support vehicle.

  • You will have access to it only at the end of the Vale do Pati trek, before continuing to the southern region of Chapada Diamantina.

Suggested contents of this extra backpack:

  • Clean, comfortable clothes for 3 days

  • Dry shoes

  • Hygiene items and towel

  • Chargers and electronics

  • Any extra items you won’t need in Vale do Pati

📦 Extra tip: If you have items you won’t need either in Vale do Pati or in the South of Chapada, they can be stored in Lençóis at Pousada Recanto dos Mineiros until your return.

It’s a 3- or 5-day immersion with no cell signal, sleeping in local homes, with full meals and guidance from local experts. Trails range from 10km to 18km per day. It’s ideal for those who exercise regularly and want deep contact with nature.
In the 3-day trek, we walk 40km in total. In the 5-day version, around 70km.

The rooms are shared. During low season, it may occasionally be possible to stay in a private room.

No. The showers use cold water straight from the spring. But after a full day of hiking, it feels truly refreshing!

We stay in Ibicoara and Mucugê, in guesthouses and/or local homestays. Rooms are double, shared, with breakfast included, and some have fans and air conditioning. Our reference accommodations are Casa de Dona Bia (Ibicoara), Kabana de Pedra (Ibicoara), and Pousada Mucugê (Mucugê).

Note: The order of the tours may change. Accommodations may also be replaced with similar options.

We do not recommend bringing anything that is not essential (e.g., hair dryer).
