Our top selection for the mountain tough ones! Six days of longer hikes, wild waterfalls, and a deep dive into Brazil’s most sought-after trekking experience. A perfect route for those looking to challenge themselves, be amazed, and connect deeply with local communities and untouched nature.

1º day

Vale do Pati

We leave Lençóis at 7am and drive to Guiné (2 hours), where we start and end the circular trek. After entering the Vale, it’s 72 hours with no cell signal. We begin with the steep climb of “Subida dos Aleixos” for about 1 hour. Then, we walk along the flat stretch of “Gerais do Rio Preto” and can bathe in the river while the guides prepare a rich picnic with fresh coffee. Afterward, we head to the Pati viewpoint for breathtaking views of the valley, descend the Rampa, and take a swim in Altina Waterfall. We end the day with a delicious dinner cooked by locals over a wood stove and a bonfire under the starry sky.

Total: 10km

Overnight: local home

Meals: lunch and dinner included.

2º day

Vale do Pati

After breakfast (7am), we face the steep climb of the imposing Morro do Castelo. We reach the entrance of Lapinha Cave and skirt around the hill to reach two amazing viewpoints, where our guide will prepare a hearty picnic lunch with a view. After lunch, we descend Morro do Castelo and head to the circuit of 3 waterfalls: Bananeiras, Funil, and Altina Waterfalls for a refreshing swim. We end the day back at the local home for dinner and rest. Total: 12km

Overnight: local home

Meals: breakfast, lunch, and dinner included.

3º day

Vale do Pati

We leave the local home after breakfast and hike to one of the highlights of the trek: the viewpoint above Cachoeirão Waterfall. With multiple cascades often forming rainbows, its 300m height creates a breathtaking scene. After a snack here, we hike along the flat “Gerais do Rio Preto,” descend the Aleixos, and return to the car we left on the first day. We then drive to Ibicoara (arrival around 8pm).

Total: 18km

Overnight: guesthouse in Ibicoara

Meals: breakfast and lunch included.

4º day

Buracão Waterfall

We drive 40 minutes from Ibicoara to the entrance of Buracão Waterfall. There are two ways to reach the 80m drop: swimming through canyons with life jackets (provided by the Municipal Park) or, for the adventurous, rappelling (extra cost, paid on site). On the same trail, we’ll also visit Recanto Verde and Orquídeas Waterfalls. Departure: 9am Return: 6pm Overnight: local home in Ibicoara

Total: 7km

Meals: breakfast and dinner included.

For lunch, we recommend buying the packed lunch from the guesthouse.

5º day

Fumacinha Waterfall

One of the most impressive waterfalls in Chapada Diamantina. The trail is technical and moderately difficult, following the riverbed, jumping stones, and crossing the river back and forth. Despite the challenge, the reward is huge: a 105m waterfall inside a canyon that resembles a chapel. If lucky, we might see a musical show by the swallows inside the canyon

Departure: 7am

Return: 6pm

Overnight: guesthouse in Mucugê

Total: 18km

Meals: breakfast included. For lunch, we recommend buying the packed lunch at the guesthouse. Dinner not included at Mucugê, but there are good restaurants.

6º day

Blue pool and Enchanted Pool

We leave Mucugê and drive for 1 hour to Poço Encantado and Poço Azul, two stunning pools of crystal-clear water. Swimming is prohibited in Poço Encantado for safety reasons, but at Poço Azul, swimming and snorkeling with life jackets (provided) is possible.

Departure: 8:30am

Arrival and end in Lençóis: 5pm

Meals: breakfast included. Lunch (not included) will be at the Poço Azul restaurant.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

In the heart of Bahia lies a magical region, filled with valleys, mountains, waterfalls, caves, and breathtaking viewpoints. A place untouched by time and civilization, with no internet signal, where the only way to arrive is on foot or by mule.

The 14 family homes scattered across these mountains warmly welcome trekkers. They offer solar-powered accommodations, meals cooked on a traditional wood stove, and a truly unique cultural experience.

Trekking through Vale do Pati offers a deep immersion into yourself, into nature, and into ecological awareness. You won’t return the same…

We stay in Ibicoara and Mucugê, in guesthouses and/or local homestays. Rooms are double, shared, with breakfast included, and some have fans and air conditioning. Our reference accommodations are Casa de Dona Bia (Ibicoara), Kabana de Pedra (Ibicoara), and Pousada Mucugê (Mucugê).

Note: The order of the tours may change. Accommodations may also be replaced with similar options.

To organize your luggage for the Chapada Insana tour with Lençóis Trekking, you should divide it into two parts, considering the different stages of the trip:

  1. Backpack for the first 3 days (Trekking in Vale do Pati):
During these days, you will carry your own backpack at all times, so the ideal size is 30 to 35 liters, with a hip belt (essential for distributing the weight on your hips). Inside it, pack:

  • Lightweight trail clothes (shorts/light pants, t-shirts)

  • Light warm clothes (at night it can be 15°C in summer and as low as 6°C in winter)

  • Rain jacket

  • Hiking boots (essential)

  • Thin towel or sarong

  • Personal hygiene kit (light and compact)

  • Swimwear

  • Sunscreen and insect repellent

  • Headlamp

  • 1.5L of water (you can refill during the day)

  • Small daypack (10L) — it will go empty inside the bigger backpack and be used on the second day, when the large pack stays at the locals’ house.

Recommended backpack weight: 3 to 6 kg, and each person is responsible for carrying their own load.

  1. Second bag for the following 3 days (South Chapada):
This bag should be small, with clean and comfortable clothes for the days outside Vale do Pati. It will remain stored in the car and handed over at the end of the third trekking day.

Avoid wheeled suitcases. Use a small duffel bag, extra backpack, or sturdy tote.

Pack in this bag:

  • Clean and comfortable clothes

  • Flip-flops

  • Clothes for swimming in waterfalls

  • Personal hygiene items

  • Phone charger

  • Personal medications

Extra tips:

  • There is a 15% discount coupon at Curtlo with the code LENCOIS15: https://www.curtlo.com.br

  • You can leave extra items in Lençóis at the luggage storage of Pousada Recanto dos Mineiros, in case you don’t want to take them to the south of Chapada.

It is an intermediate-level itinerary, with 4 days covering more than 10 km (including 2 days of 18 km) involving both ascents and descents. We recommend it for those who exercise regularly, are used to hiking, and are in good health.

Yes. Our partner guesthouse, Recanto dos Mineiros, in Lençóis, offers a luggage storage service for our clients.

No, there isn’t. You will be disconnected for 3 days — enjoy it! If you are doing the Chapada Insana route, you will regain signal once you leave Vale do Pati.

No, there aren’t. There is one outlet located in a room with a small shop, where you can charge your phone for a limited period, since the energy source is solar.

No. The showers use cold water straight from the spring. But after a full day of hiking, it feels truly refreshing!

Each traveler carries their own backpack. We recommend it weighs between 3–6 kg.

  • On the 3-day trek, you will carry the backpack on days 1 and 3. Since both nights are spent in the same house, on the second day you can leave your belongings there and hike only with a small daypack (10L), which should fit inside your main backpack.

  • On the 5-day trek, you will carry the main backpack every day, and on some sections you will also use the daypack.

You don’t need to have an athlete’s level of fitness, but to fully enjoy the experience we ask that you maintain a regular exercise routine (gym, running, biking, beach volleyball, etc.) and that you are an active person who enjoys challenges.

It is important to remember that this is a contemplative hike! We stop to take photos, admire the scenery, swim in waterfalls, and have lunch. We adapt to and respect each person’s pace, but there is a time organization to follow so that we can complete the route within the planned schedule.

The rooms are shared. During low season, it may occasionally be possible to stay in a private room.

We do not recommend bringing anything that is not essential (e.g., hair dryer).

It’s a 3- or 5-day immersion with no cell signal, sleeping in local homes, with full meals and guidance from local experts. Trails range from 10km to 18km per day. It’s ideal for those who exercise regularly and want deep contact with nature.
In the 3-day trek, we walk 40km in total. In the 5-day version, around 70km.

We recommend bringing a 1.5L water bottle. You should start each day with it completely full. Along the trail, there will be certain points where you can refill it.
